About us
Behind the pseudonym ‘Moertel’ is Hamburg-based pixel artist Stefanie Fehling.
Growing up in the 80s and 90s, she has been combining the nostalgia of 8-bit video games with our lives in the here and now since 2016 to create dark, detailed neo-noir animations. Lonely streets, bridges, and city lights are recurring elements in her art, which explores the interplay of light and shadow, nature and industry.
As a director, Stefanie has animated music videos for Alt-J (“Get Better” 2021) and Turin Brakes (‘Isolation’ 2022), embellished thousands of cell phones with vibrant pixel art backgrounds with “Retro Mode,” and finally traded her beloved IT career for the freedom of being a freelance artist in 2023. She is currently working on many new artworks and is excited to show you a few sneak peeks at the convention. Of course, Stefanie will bring her famous lenticular prints (and rumor has it there will be an exclusive Leipzig motif).
